Revival in the Home - Rebecca Spooner (Keynote)

Are you dealing with broken relationships, heartbreak, depression, or even bone-wearying exhaustion in your family? In this session, you’ll be inspired by stories of real revivals through history and how children, men, and women were forever changed and marked not by striving, but by God’s presence. You don’t need a five-step plan—you need the one who can bring beauty from the ashes, joy in the morning, and rain on a dry and thirsty land. May you walk away full of anticipation for the great plans that God has for you. He’s not finished with you yet.

Being Salt  and Light Families - Israel Wayne

Homeschoolers are often accused of retreating from society instead of impacting it. What is the balance between sheltering our children and reaching out to a lost world around us? In this session, Israel explains how you can equip your children for the ‘real world’ by developing a family ministry.

"Math Is..." - Alice Horrocks

Many homeschool parents are intimidated by the thought of teaching their children mathematics. In this talk I will discuss what math is, and what learning math is all about. The good news is that you don't need to teach math. Still, there are many things parents can do to help their child gain confidence, become competent, learn to understand concepts,  and even enjoy math.

Facing the Challenge of Evolution - Henry Ho

“Is our world and life in it the result of a random evolutionary process?”  More and more people, sometimes even our friends and family, are answering “yes”.  Is this really based on scientific evidence, or not?  How do we face this challenge to the Bible?  What are some solid reasons why we can be confident that evolution is a blind faith, and that the Christian faith is on firm ground?

Transcripts, Grades, Reports, Oh My!

Often we homeschool because we don't want to put our children's learning in a box and yet, when I comes time to communicate with next educators, we often need to be prepared with the language and techniques of those who will teach our children next - whether that's a grade three teacher or a university professor. In this seminar we will talk about why you might need various records or reports and how to best prepare them. With a focus on high school documentation, we will look at how to grade our students, report cards, portfolios, and transcripts.

Surviving the Marathon - Sarah Hornblower

Some things just are, or so they seem to be. The world seems to be built for even numbers; things come in 2s or 4s. Families are supposed to be 4 people because that is what a family package normally includes 2 adults and 2 kids. But what happens when you don't fit and worse when your kids don't fit? You know it, and they will eventually know it despite your best efforts to the contrary. Ever been that kid when everyone had a phone in their bedroom, it seemed but you? Or for those of a younger generation, everyone had an iPod or a cell phone but you. Home-schooling communities are small to begin with and connection is so key to success, but what happens when in spite of our best efforts, we just don’t mesh? Our kids just don’t fit; no matter how we try, we just can’t fit in. How do you handle the hurt, the isolation and the loss of connection with the community that you need so badly as a mom? Homeschooling can feel like an ultra marathon when your child doesn't fit. Whether it be social awkwardness, family structure or a diagnosis some kids just struggle to fit in, whether in public school or in a homeschool environment. Come and be encouraged by a mom who for 25 years hasn't fit in, and her kids don't fit. Laugh, learn some new way to cope, and feel encouraged that you aren't alone in the struggle, and neither are your kids.

Theater and Drama - Pamela Beal

Join our workshop designed for teaching theatre to homeschoolers! Learn how to create engaging sessions covering acting basics, interactive storytelling, character development, theatre games and showcasing student talent and then bring it on stage in a full-on production!

Is Homeschooling Just for Women? - Israel Wayne

For many men, homeschooling has been looked at largely as something their wife does. Many believe that if they pay the bills, that is really all that God expects of them. Biblically speaking, what is the proper role for men in the process of home education?

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Disciple - Richard Saunders

What’s the point of discipleship? You’re broke, you love pizza way too much, you have little say in your life, you’re invited into non-stop entertainment and distraction (that you know is no good for you), you’re constantly being told about your potential (which is insanely irritating), not much is expected of you at church, you’re super aware of all your failings and short comings, and you feel at times like a Mutant no one can understand (not even yourself)… … in short you’re a TEENAGER. So, what is God looking for from you? Good news. God is looking for fruit even from his teenagers. Let’s study Galatians 4 together and see what Jesus expects from all His disciples, even and especially from His young men and women.

Anthony and Cheryl Nelson - Homeschooling as a Minority

In this ever-changing society that we face, more and more we will find ourselves in the minority one way or the other – whether by ethnicity, disability, or relationally as a single parent or step-parent as examples. As Christians, with a biblical worldview, God has given us tools to navigate these waters. Like Daniel and the Hebrew boys, and like Abram and his family, we too can learn how to trust God as we homeschool.

Ken Stouffer - What Christians Have Done for the World

We’ll review some historical highlights of the incredible contributions of Christianity to the quality of life on earth. We’ll also explore why Christianity has lost its ability to transform our culture for good, and we’ll look at how to retake what’s been lost.

Teaching and Learning Styles - Andrew McEvoy

How do you balance your teaching style with your child’s learning style? In this experiential and insightful workshop we will explore your own personalities and teaching styles as well as dive into the different learning styles your children might prefer. You will walk away with ideas on how to keep a fresh perspective as you teach each day.

You Can't Do It All! (Burnout) - Klaske Kroesbergen

Confident Homeschooling - Rebecca Spooner

If you find yourself constantly comparing your homeschool to others or looking outward for answers, you might be an insecure homeschooler. Join a second-generation homeschooler who lives to tell the story that this is possible and that your kids are going to be okay. Learn some tools and key points to help you trust your own discernment and listen to what God is saying to you about your homeschool so you can follow His lead. Give yourself some grace for the journey and then rise up and stand firm—not easily swayed or moved with your feet planted on your path. You are not doing this by accident, and you, my friend, are not alone.

Who was Charlotte Mason? How does a woman who lived over one hundred years ago have any relevance to education today? Are her methods really that different from others? Come and learn how to bring your children the luscious FEAST of education while breathing life into your home atmosphere and daily activities. The CM approach is highly adaptable and works well for all, regardless of where your child is academically. “The question is not, — how much does the youth know? when he has finished his education — but how much does he care? and about how many orders of things does he care? In fact, how large is the room in which he finds his feet set? and, therefore, how full is the life he has before him?” (Charlotte Mason, School Education, p. 170-171)

Nurturing Readers - Shelley Saunders

How can we breathe life back into our homeschool on tough days? How can we inspire truth, education and beauty to our little ones when we’re the ones struggling? How do we get a kid who’s dragging their feet to love learning? The answer is Reading! Children don’t have to love to read to develop a love of literature, in fact getting kids to fall in love with experiences before they fall in love with words is key. It’s time to explore how the simplicity of reading is the stepping stone to nurturing ourselves and igniting passion in our children.

UNsubscribe! - Vanessa Brobbel

Lee Strobel commissioned a national survey asking people what question they’d ask if they could only ask God one thing. The Number One response was: “Why is there suffering in the world?” In fact, it is this very question that causes many to conclude that God must not exist, for if He did; suffering, pain, and evil wouldn’t. Right? The question is: Is it worth it to follow Jesus, or do we click unsubscribe? What if we could prepare our children to think Biblically before they’re presented with the questions that challenge the faith? This session puts some tools in your parental and educational toolbox to help prevent “Unsubscribing.”

Guarding Your Home (Cybersecurity) - David Redekop

The most significant change the world has seen in modern times is the introduction of internet access that is such a double-edged sword. Learn how we reach the hearts of the next generation and use technology wisely to make sure our worldview is purposeful and limits mal-intentioned external influences. We can live by rules alone, for a while, but rules without relationship lead to rebellion. We can live on relationship alone, for a while, but why expose human hearts unnecessarily during high-risk years? The ideal balance lies in personalized balance between technology and hearts.

Our teens are seeking purpose and vision as they transition into independence. They need the well-established trails of discipline that deliver strong character and spiritual strength. They crave healthy relationships with their family and others. They continue to require inspiration to learn as they blossom into the young adults that the Lord planned for them to be. Join Cori Dean as she shares lessons from her journey of more than 20 years of parenting and homeschooling teens.

Sarah Hornblower - Mental Health and Homeschooling

Mental health when it’s great it’s great, but what happens when it’s not so great and you homeschool? Usually, the first advice you’ll get is, “Well, this will be so much better if you just put them in school.” But what if that goes against your conviction? Then it leads to more isolation and trying to navigate the piecemeal world that is our mental health medical field. You are not alone in the struggles with either yourself or your children. Having run the gambit of mental health from anxiety to suicide, depression and hospitalization, come and be encouraged this is attainable. How do you keep going when your tank is empty? How do help your child learn when they are stressed to the max? What tools can we offer to help them manage their mental health? I am not a practitioner; I am just a mom who has walked this road many times through the years, sharing what got me through it and how we have come out on the other side. If you are in a mental health crisis, please reach out to the 211 or 988 suicide crisis line.

Better Late than Early or Early than Late? - Diane Geerlinks

All children learn and grow at their pace…from rolling over as infants to crawling, to talking, to toilet training, to learning the alphabet. Is this also true for learning to read? Homeschool parents are told over and over again ‘Don’t worry…they’ll catch on eventually’. Although this is somewhat reassuring for a homeschool mom who has tried everything to get their child to read, she wonders, “Is it fact? Do I dare wait?”  In this workshop, Diane will debunk some myths, discuss some red flags and provide a dose of reassurance and support as you navigate the swirling questions.

Lindsay Tadros - Writing 101 Workshop

“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step” is a true sentiment, but after you’ve taken the first step, what next? What about the 10th, 100th, and 678th step?? For many homeschoolers, teaching writing feels like a journey of a thousand miles, and they aren’t sure what that journey looks like down the road. This workshop will help you to understand the beginning, middle AND end of the journey that is teaching writing during the primary/junior school years (Kindergarten through Grade 6). Discussing common pitfalls, and equipping parents to make educated decisions about curriculum, assessment, and goals in their child’s writing journey.

Jan Kaikkonen - Intersection of Faith and Education

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

Is education at the crossroads? Are schools the only place where students can avail themselves of the collective wisdom of a multiplicity of stakeholders?  And if the ultimate goal of JK-12 education is to provide students with necessary skills, then why do the institutions continually struggle with the most basic questions? As in what are the barriers to student achievement? Why are pedagogical standards declining? This presentation seeks to reframe the current school model as the sole source for learning to a paradigm which includes God, faith, and family as essentials for engaging students in life-long learning endeavours.

Sarah Hornblower - Mental Health and Homeschooling

Mental health when it’s great it’s great, but what happens when it’s not so great and you homeschool?
