WHAT ARE SUPPORT GROUPS?

CONNECTING WITH LOCAL HOMESCHOOLERS

The nature of each support group depends on its member families. Activities range from field trips, subjects courses together, co-operative learning, prayer groups, moms’ support, and so on.

Often, 3 or 4 families meet to encourage one another, share ideas, curriculum, and coordinate events, meeting weekly during the day to share their skills – be that theatre, math, science, writing, logic etc. or possibly a very specific 6 week project – life skill, play, debate etc. A monthly evening meeting may become part of the time together for parents to share and discuss issues.

Being part of a group helps you get through difficult times (they do occur!), and the excitement of seeing what can be accomplished is encouraging. As more groups form and connect with OCHEC, our network expands so we can help connect others as they begin home education. Plus, the more home educators we represent, the more credibility we carry with those who decide legislation.

DID YOU KNOW? Your group could birth a new group!

As many families commence homeschooling, they need a place to connect – yet your group may already be bursting at the seams!  Could you spare a seasoned member or two to start a new group?

This has worked well in the past! Give us a call, and let’s see what we can do to minimize growing pains.

Consider Starting A Group

OCHEC proactively supports the growth of local connections.

No minimum number of members to start! Register through your group’s leader.  They will be asked:

(i) to affirm the Support Group’s commitment to the OCHEC Constitution

(ii) that the leader is in agreement with the OCHEC Statement of Faith.

Your contact information will be kept confidential. New individuals’ requests from your area can be automatically directed to you if you choose.  Your Area Rep will keep in touch with you.
