Volunteering for OCHEC

Volunteers are always needed, both on OCHEC committees and at the OCHEC convention. Some positions may also be open under Area Representatives and the convention committee. If you want to consider being an Area Representative, here are the duties required.

Note: Each duty is to be fulfilled to the best of your ability. Providence may prevent you from performing some duties.


  • To be in contact with home schoolers in your area
  • Be willing serve on committees as assigned
  • Encourage the start and growth of local support groups
  • Contact all Chapter Representatives regularly (minimum once a year)
  • Contact all Chapter Representatives and Individual members who do not renew memberships
  • Provide information and support for individuals who may contact you
  • Host a regional gathering in order to get to know members in your area
  • Encourage home schoolers in your area to become actively involved in OCHEC
  • Maintain a telephone tree in order to transmit vital information (especially about proposed legislation)
  • Seek out potential successors
  • Write a brief newsletter article for each edition giving highlights of happenings in your area
  • Represent OCHEC at conferences and book fairs in your area
